The hump-back bridge on the Trassey Road over the Shimna River
From Newcastle main street turn right at the lights opposite the promenade. Keeping to the left lane, turn left at the roundabout on to the main Bryansford-Newcastle road. Keep to this road for about 2 to 3 miles until you come to a junction and then turn left unto the Hilltown road. Travel along this road going past the village shop, for about one and a half miles until you reach the Tollymore Mountain Centre. Travel past the Centre and ignore the Tullyree Road. Trassey Road is the next road to the left—don’t drive too fast or you might miss it. A sign is posted at the end of this road. On the Trassey road travel down the hill to a hump-back bridge. Once over the hump-back bridge travel on up the hill going past the existing car park and the Trassey Track (remember Meelmore Lodge has its own private mountain access). Continue down and up the hill and at the top you will come across several signs signalling Meelmore Lodge.
